About Dr. Welch

I grew up in Kodiak, Alaska, where I developed a passion for healthcare from a young age. After high school, I moved to Minnesota and earned my Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition from the College of Saint Benedict in 2014. I then decided to pursue physical therapy and earned my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Creighton University, graduating in 2018. During my time at Creighton, I became Level 1 certified in pelvic health through the American Physical Therapy Association, which sparked my growing interest in women’s health. After graduation, my husband and I spent three years traveling across California and Alaska, working on short-term contracts in various clinics and hospital systems. This experience allowed me to broaden my clinical expertise, learning from diverse mentorships and treatment approaches. Along the way, I realized there was a significant gap in specialized pelvic health care, particularly for women who were often underserved in this area. This insight, combined with my passion for helping women achieve optimal health, inspired me to start my own private pelvic health physical therapy practice. I’m excited to create a space where women can receive individualized, compassionate care tailored to their unique needs.

Pregnancy Related Issues

During pregnancy, many women experience pelvic pain, sciatica, or sacroiliac joint discomfort. I help expectant mothers manage these symptoms with exercises and techniques that alleviate pain and improve mobility, while also preparing the body for labor and delivery.

Postpartum Recovery

After childbirth, the body goes through significant changes. Postpartum women often experience pelvic floor weakness, abdominal separation (diastasis recti), and muscle tension. I provide comprehensive rehabilitation to strengthen the pelvic floor, restore core stability, and promote overall recovery.

Tailbone Pain (Coccydynia)

Tailbone pain can occur after childbirth or injury and can make sitting, standing, or even walking uncomfortable. I use a combination of pelvic floor therapy principles and exercises to alleviate pain and promote healing of the pelvic floor and surrounding muscles.

Painful Intercourse (Dyspareunia)

Pain during or after sex is often due to pelvic floor dysfunction, tension, or scarring from childbirth. I help women reduce pain through pelvic floor muscle relaxation, desensitization techniques, and targeted exercises.

Bladder Dysfunction

This includes issues like urinary incontinence, urgency, and difficulty fully emptying the bladder, often caused by weak or imbalanced pelvic floor muscles. A pelvic floor therapist treats these conditions by strengthening and retraining the pelvic muscles to improve bladder control and function.

Diastasis Recti

Diastasis recti refers to the separation of the abdominal muscles, commonly seen during and after pregnancy. I provide safe exercises to help close the gap, restore core strength, and improve posture, preventing further complications.

Constipation

Chronic constipation can be a result of pelvic floor dysfunction, often related to weak or tight pelvic floor muscles. I work with women to improve bowel function by retraining the pelvic floor and encouraging proper posture and relaxation techniques during bowel movements.

Frequent Urination/Nighttime Urination (Nocturia)

Frequent trips to the bathroom during the day or night can interfere with daily life and sleep. I help women address the underlying pelvic floor dysfunction that may be contributing to urgency and frequency, improving bladder control and reducing nighttime awakenings.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when the pelvic organs (bladder, uterus, rectum) descend or bulge into the vaginal space due to weakened pelvic floor muscles. I offer exercises and treatments that strengthen the pelvic floor, improve support, and alleviate symptoms such as pressure, discomfort, or incontinence.
